Percussive Maintenance on a Griffon

I thought this posting, which came from a thread on a Jaguar site about tank engines, might amuse those interested in the Shackleton

A Cortina my brother in law had years ago needed the very same percussive maintenance. He never went anywhere without a hammer.. aka.. a pursuader

I used to have a Triumph 2000TC that needed percussive maintenance on the starter motor from time to time. It turned out that it had a hairline crack in the spur gear and it would get jammed in the starter ring. A sharp rap with a BFH would fix it for a while until it jammed again. I must have had that starter on and off about six times before I finally spotted the crack.

Must be a Triumph thing, I had the same with a Herald. Damn I loved that car even though the doors used to fly open terrifyingly going around a bend. I almost lost an unsuspecting colleague at Hyde Park Corner when it was taken at speed.

would make a perfect lineup in my hangar today!!
(next to my 69 Escort Mk1 Standard)

And I wouldn't mind any percussive maintenance at all...
