A soggy day at Duxford

One of my regular visits. Its was below minimums - but I went anyway.






The Varsity dismantled ready for its transfer to Newquay. Sad to see it go, but I hope it receives a bit more TLC at its new home.






The Ambassador is looking very imposing...






The repaint of the 1-11 proceeds slowly, and of course, not at all on a day like this. Its being sponsored by British Airways, apparently.






The IWM in Lambeth is undergoing refurbishment, so some of the exhibits have been moved up to Duxford temporarily.

Nice to see these two together..






You could just get a glimpse of the Heinkel 162 Salamander, and a WW1 tank beyond

Various items of lethal hardware from Lambeth. You can just make out a replica ( ?) of Little Boy, the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, at the back. At least I think thats what it is supposed to be...






One of the most fascinating aviation artifacts held by the IWM - the rear fuselage of the Me-110 that Rudolph Hess flew to Britain in. Amazing to see it.




In the shop I discovered that Bill Waterton's book 'The Quick and the Dead' is back in print, so I picked up a copy, along with a DVD on the Vickers Wellington. So, a cold and wet day, but it doesn't matter at Duxford - I always come away happy!

Thanks for posting those Paul.It's some years now since I visited Duxford but the last time I did it in style! I flew on a trip from Coventry in the Twin Pioneer for the 60th anniversary of the end of WW2.Duxford is always good to visit,pity it's so far from here. EricT

Yes a number of years, and its looking very dilapidated. I don't know where DAS have stored the missing bits, or even whether they are being worked on.

Ooh a Twin Pin into Duxford - thats whats known as making an arrival !

When I was in the ATC, we circled Duxford in a Chipmunk from Cambridge airport. This before the IWM took it over, so I saw it au naturel.

One thing that is worrying me about the place is the number of exhibits that have been disposed of in the last few months. Not good.

I think its just going to be what it was, G-AVMU 'County of Dorset'. As I say, British Airways are sponsoring the repaint, so that would seem most likely.

I posted the link recently due to the Vanguard at the beginning....watching it through a few days ago I came to the Herald and in the case of G-APWJ and 'WI for that matter, it's delivery colours.

Channel TV is 50 and they have some archive stuff on their site.

The IWM Duxford is one of those places on my 'bucket list'. My significant other somehow got tacked onto their charity drive mailing list, and has actually donated $100 USD in the last year alone...despite the fact that she couldn't tell a P-51 from a Lancaster...bless her heart!
