I have to say, messing about with this, I hadn't realised how difficult it was to fly an RC aircraft. In particular getting your head around which way to move the controls when it's flying towards you. I'm starting to respect your skills a bit more, now Not your judgement, mind, but your skills
It's not as difficult as it seems really.. especially if you've been around FS for as long as we have. A good way to practise is by using tower view and flying the aircraft around you while not crashing. OK.. with RC you use 2 thumbs.. the left for throttle and rudder and the right to control elevator and ailerons but it's still similar enough to FS for FS to be of use.
I had some difficulty a while back betting one of my models to aileron roll and found FS useful in showing what certain models do. It isn't the be all and end all though. You can roll a jet or piston fighter in FS with ease.. very little elevator input involved if any. Others need a little UP elevator at the begining of the manoeuvre.. some need a bit at the begining and a touch of down elevator near the end. Others won't aileron roll at all and the types that won't in FS probably won't in RC so it's useful to know
Like FS though, it'd difficult to tell if the model is flying away from you or toward you and in certain circumstances, which way up it is so height is everything.. calibrated in 'Mistakes'. The more 'Mistakes' high you are, the more time you have to get out of trouble
Hoping for less wind in the morning (later today that is). I've not got around to trying my monster 2200mAH battert in the Bixler yet. I fear it may fly down rather than up with all that weight in the front
Had the first "incident" with the stryker yesterday Yes the esc dried out ok Dave Just took the stryker down to the field mainly to see if it was flooded or not Only had one batttery with me but flew it to within an inch of its endurance It finally gave up on the downwind leg parrallel to the strip. Tried to turn onto base but made the turn too tight and she stalled out , no great speed and only form 5 or 6 feet or so but managing to clip the wire fence of the field pulling out a lump of the leading edge Repairable but spoilt Nothing worse than the first rash. Shes done well to last so long i suppose Found the piece of foam and its now glued back in with a patch of tape over the leading edge to disguise it Dont look too bad but as usual a totally avoidable crash

Rather that than the CAP or Cub I guess.. much easier to repair The first 'incident' with any model is disappointing isn't it.. kinda takes the edge off. I'm wondering now if I can continue to get away 'scot free' with the Bixler So far, so good Imagine how I felt with the ASW. The first 4 launches were a disaster. I hated the sight of the bloody thing after 5mins It's had many incident free flight since though.. just one ground spin on a particularly gusty landing and with 6ft of wingspan inches from the ground.. about an inch and a half when it's on the ground.. it was inevitable one of the tips would catch on a clump of grass at some point. No damage done though
Oh.. the DX6i is 'ON' by the way. SWMBO said as she was only having a cheap Christmas present, I could have the difference. Duly ordered I've got the daughter to buy me an AR600 receiver too
If your batteries cant be used as hand warmers then youre not trying Dave
In fairness the stryker likes to be treated to a bit of throttle its not the model for pussyfooting around
Bought 3 gens ace 2200mha from GS when i bought to stryker and get around 6 or 7 mins of flight from them spose mostly 3/4 throttle The new stryker f28q is heavier than the old version and doesnt glide aswell The old stryker could climb till just a dot then throttle off and just lazily descend in large circles This one looses a lot of speed and height in turns if gliding , as i found out ysterday but is slippery in a straight line making apprroaches very long Think you would struggle to get much bigger than the 2200 inside it Seems to fly fine on the stock prop ( not sure what it is)
