I used to be an optimist but with age I am now a grumpy old pessimist.

My first Sat Nav was better than the new one I bought a few years ago.

The directions were given as you would expect but if I missed the turning instead of 'recalculating' as mine now says the old one gave a warning!! :worried: ...........then, if I missed the 2nd command I would get a slap!! :hide:

I still love her though!!

I have a book with pages that turn and at the back there is an index, I believe it is called an atlas. I can look at it and using memory can usually recall roughly where it say such and such is. I do not have to listen to an interminable middle American accented woman droning on and on, instead I can listen to some nice Beethoven or Chopin which gets me there rested and not enraged. Why don't we have a sarcasm smilie? :-#

On a serious note for all you Apple fan boys and Android users, the best mapping tool available for all platforms is here maps. And the best bit is they are OFFLINE so you don't have to worry about being online or sticking to the journey that you've already downloaded from google.

Last weekend I used a sat nav for the first time in anger, driving from near Pittsburgh to Gettysburg, and it was absolutely brilliant. Door to door, no bother - no looking down at a map and / or turning the page on a road atlas while I'm driving, prior announcement of upcoming turns, then another when you get there...best bit of kit I've ever had in a car, and indispensable when driving in a foreign land; you can concentrate on driving on the correct side of the freeway !
