I'm currently building a Sabre F4 model of 92sqn. I am having some trouble finding out which grey to use on the camouflage.
I do have an advisory on WWII and slightly post, from a paint manufacturer, and also a guide in the decal pack I bought - but the colours they suggest (Dark Sea Grey, usually, but also just "Dark Grey", don't seem right when I look at the few colour photographs I find on the 'net.
I use Vallejo Model Air paints - but I also have Humbrol and Xtracrylix and all of them, in Dark Sea Grey, look far too dark when compared to the pictures. Maybe they are just a bit worn or faded in the pictures, but considering how new they were, I would doubt that.
As there are obviously some well-educated classic enthusiasts here, I thought someone may know with some certainty what shade is required. Besides that - you wouldn't believe the amount of snobbery that goes on in model building forums! That's why I have my own website - do what I like and stuff their opinions!
Anyway, here is the model info - the pics are right at the top of the article. Even in the decal diagram it looks lighter than Dark Sea Grey.
Anyone know about them?
