G-ASHG 50 Yrs Ago Today

Post by VC10 »

Today marked 50 years since prototype BAC One-Eleven G-ASHG crashed after entering a super-stall during flight test killing all 7 crew members. RIP

I was in the Weybridge TSR2 Design office at that time - we were all stunned with the news.

I didn't notice that!

Mike Lithgow wasn't Chief Test Pilot either, Jock Bryce was.

Jock was due to fly that test but was called to a high powered meeting by Sir George Edwards at Weybridge to try and work out how they had lost the Trans-Canada Airlines 1-11 order to the DC9. BAC thought is was a certainty as TCA already operating the Viscount & Vanguard.
