I followed this today...
http://jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=7241400
It crossed over Heathrow at 27000 feet and continued heading about 160 degrees and went across the channel...I followed it to about halfway across and then I think he switched off his transponder. His TAS at that altitude was 324 knots. Pretty impressive! It is a Pilatus PC-12/47 US Airforce using Flight Number TROJN2.

I doubt he turned anything off
Likely this is not Mode S and being displayed on the new software that requires a minimum of four receivers triangulating the position and him being fairly high. He most probably ran into a blind spot.
Happens here.
None of the extras show over here only until about 30 mile north. and about 50 miles W

That triangulation thing (Multilateration) using 4 receivers triangulates the position of a Mode S transponder.
The "Normal" Flight Radar 24 etc traffic is ADS-B equipped. (Mode S + ADS-B)
Mode S is mandatory in controlled airspace as that's what TCAS works from.

It's a minimum of four so that means a minimum of two triangualtions...so that's four to give two

That's a good speed with the undercarriage down, Peter!
Were you following it on one of the global tracking sites?
All that SADS Bs and what not, went right over my head, I hope none of it was rude, I wouldn't want to have been offended. (like they do on the drive on drive off ferries?)

Re: I followed this today...
Mike, I was locked onto it in "Flightradar24"...I locked to it as it passed Heathrow and watched it till it was about halfway across the channel...It then vanished. I then searched for a picture of the actual aeroplane and that it what I put up
I did take a screenshot, but I haven't processed it yet
