BA Fleet changes

Post by Garry Russell »

Some long time BA machines are for the chop

Further deliveries of A.320's has seen three 737 go. G-DOCU went for part out and scrap in August and the end of October has seen G-DOCV and G-DOCH following.

The 787 introduction is due to decimate the 767 fleet and 767 G-BNWR is due for withdrawal 10 November and be immediately sent for part out and scrap. 2015 will see just seven remaining

The later 777's saw several Boeing 747-400 withdrawn.

G-BNLA was withdrawn and stored some time ago and is now being parted out. G-BNLD remains in store whilst 'LB & 'LC have already been scrapped.

The A.380 introduction along with more 777's is due to reduce the 747-400 fleet by a substantial margin over the next ten years. Forty-three will remain in 2015 and 2017-2023 will see the fleet reduce to thirty.

I'm actually a little surprised that the 747s are to remain in service as long as 2023 and beyond. That said, I don't know what their average age is. Times are certainly changing.

The later ones...I guess the one's they'll keep are 1998/9 making them 10-11 years older than the first 400's.

So in 2023 they'll be the same age as the older members are now.
