Caught it quite by accident. SWMBO was doing a quick channel hop after some rubbish she'd been watching had finished and I happened to pop into the living room as she passed Beeb2. It goes without saying that she was thoroughly impressed and muttered something like 'I'm glad I'm going to work'.. her not me you understand

Yes.. thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure about some of the detail but the Cold War is such an open subject.. there are bound to be different interpretations of the facts. V Force next week and I think I'm at work!! :|

Nice to see aviation on a mainstream channel and not just buried away on specialist ones. I wish the BBC would do more of this, it was heaven just to sit there for a full hour without a single ad break!

Recorded this last night but have yet to watch it. Could have picked a better name for the program though, as it sounds a bit naff

I thought it was narratively weak and could have done without the joyride in the Jet Provost. There was good material surrounding the selling of the Nene to the Soviets and the knock-on effects on the Korean War. I suspect a whole programme could have been made about this alone. I suppose one has to remember that these programmes, especially when screened on BBC2, are geared towards a general audience.

Great choices of archive film though, and hopefully the second episode will be a cracker.

The great shame about the programme was that it blamed Rolls Royce for the sale of the Nene, when in fact it was the traitorous Stafford Cripps . When Churchill again became PM in 1951 he had Cripps in his sights on charges of treason, but Cripps conveniently died in Switzerland !
