Damn your black heart Mr Garwood. You know I have the breaking strain of a Kit-Kat

Okey doh.. downloaded, installed and a quick 25mins flight. You get 4 paints for the Mk1.. Raf cammo, Finnish AF, Irish AF and this..
Image

A brief run down..
I like the cockpit and interior.. it's faithful to a Mk1 and nicely done throughout. The sounds are what you'd expect for a pair of Cheetah IX's (nice one Nev). The FD.. I'm not sure of. For a start, it has a tendency to pull right and with Torque and P-Factor turned off.. I don't expect to see this but it's ever present and to my mind.. over done. Here's an example of what I mean..
Image

In the shot above, I'd simply taken off. The Anson Mk1 manual states.. 'There is a very slight tendency to swing to port. This is easily corrected and the aircraft can be kept straight by use of throttles until rudder action is obtained'. VERY SLIGHT!! :-O I dunno.. perhaps I'm being harsh but with torque and p-factor turned off.. I expect it to go in a straight line and it doesn't.. like the FCS Wellington but moreso. I guess it can be argued that this is part of the 'realistic' FD *-) It may well be but I don't like it :| Without a throttle quad and TrackIR.. the port throttle is obscured by the yoke making that sort of control impossible. You have to keep feeding in rudder which is ok I guess but again.. with these elements zeroed in FSX, I'd expect it to go where I want.. not where IT wants.

I know the Anson has a large elevator but the models action may be a little over done. It's not enough for me to be overly concerned.

Landing gear and flaps are authentic and as you'd expect. Although you can flick the gear button on your stick or in the cockpit.. the landing gear replicates being hand cranked and takes some time to both retract and lower. If you come in low and have forgotten to lower them.. you'll have to go around or suffer a belly landing  Likewise, the flaps replicate being hand-cranked. They're quicker than the landing gear of course but not fast and their action is accompanied by an appropriate cranking sound ;)

Not much else I can add at this point. I'm a sucker for the Anson and couldn't resist the AF model at the release price though ultimately, I may have shot myself in the foot as you only get the Mk1. The FSAddon version will come with more but the cost of this is still unknown. To summarise.. if the darned thing flew straight.. I'd be happy. As it doesn't.. I'm less so and for want of a better word.. disappointed. This is more painful by the fact I was so keen for the download to finish and get it installed :(

Hmm, didn't see this here - but I just spotted Lewis from A2A's posting at the SimHQ forum and no hesitation - downloading now :welldone:

Can't wait to give the old girl a whirl this evening! B)smk

Dave - I'll let you know how I get on (I also have one of those tweak progs that lets you adjust things by just telling it to make the aircraft do one thing or another, and it changes the settings for you - so could try that if the slewing thing is an issue).

btw - are you saying the Welly pulls as well? Because mine doesn't!

Sorry to report, Dave, that I just got out of the cockpit and I had no issues with slewing at all - took off in a perfectly straight line.

The taxi to runway was a bit of an adventure, though. Using brakes to steer is fine, but I prefer that it straightens up after releasing the brake, rather than going round in circles!

Apart from that minor irritation, it's a  from me.

Have you tried it again since exiting FS after changing the settings?

I would tend to check the lateral C of G due to fuel & passenger load position - I find that this can affect one wing low excessively.
I think P factor only normally affects yaw when tail is on the ground.

JD..

All my FS settings are zero in realism and the shot of the Anson was taken with them that way.

And yes.. the FSC Wellington also flies to the right. The FSX Lancaster doesn't. THe only 2 models I have that do this are the FSC Wellie and AF Anson so it's not me!

As an aside.. I've just loaded both onto a new pc with a first time load of FSX+ACC and they still do it.

Anyway.. I've another concern about the Anson which I won't go into here. Needless to say, I really don't feel like flying it anymore.

Calm aires and a cool temper..
