From the other post there is an update... http://www.prepar3d.com/news/2013/11/4648/
Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Yes, I'd been checking their website several times an hour (!) waiting for the announcement.
With what you get in terms of add-on aircraft that come included and the improvements they have obviously made I reckon 60 bucks (£38) is pretty good. I'll be buying it on Monday, but I won't try and download it for a few days after that - their servers are bound to be under some stress - and will then use my netbook to download it overnight(s) like I did with 1.4 to save on the electricity bill.

But what does one have to pay for Personal Entertainment rights? I note that its not permitted!
As you say though an Academic license for a one off payment of $60 is not bad - about the same for X-Plane?
Trouble is my 'puter is just about above minimum, with a twin core & 4gig of RAM & a DX11 compatible video card.
Its just the thought of learning something new at my old dog time of life!
Christmas present?

Keith there isnt anything stopping you from trying it and if it does work get a refund upto 60 days...
The entertainment thing is its not a game but a simulator

A lot of chat about the legalities of the entertainment bit over at SOH!

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Keith, its down to LM's legalities of their purchase os ESP from MS... They are not allowed to sell it as an Entertaiment(Game) product but as a simulator its hunky dory. So as an End User we can use it for simulation and learning purposes but are not allowed to be entertained.

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Exactly - over on the P3D forums the staff themselves are basically saying "just shut and buy the thing" as it states in the EULA it can be used for 'learning' - and who isn't doing that?
Makes me laugh when people come up with silly scenarios, being pedantic, and the admin tell them they had best go and buy the professional licence, then!
Makes yer chuckle! People are their own worst enemies...

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Perhaps I read too many forums and get an overload of this stuff, but how many times must I read the same damned query about the Academic licence. A simple search at P3D forums would suffice in answering the question. Sheesh!

Spot on Alex!
I really tire of those doomsday merchants regarding P3D. I am lucky enough to have bought a new PC for V2 so am looking forward to it. Some of us cannot afford that expense however so there is always a place for FS9. That is why Lars, Derek and I develop mainly for FS9. Did like the comment from one of the forums about him not purchasing V2 unless he could blow the tyres up!
If it is not for you then don't buy it. You certainly will not be able to convince LM to change it.

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
It might help I suppose if they could add another 't' in simulation?
But how does one argue about distributing freeware one has learned to create? - for others to learn how to fly that particular model I suppose & maybe learn how it was created?
Food for the lawyers among you....
Keith
P.S. I must admit at the moment I am considering trying the X plane demo. Believe it has 'Design software' type aerodynamics that could be better than FS9 & FSX, so if it shows up reasonable on my 'puters capabilities I might buy it. ( Or ask a certain white bearded gent to supply!)
