Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Hi Chris,
it needs nothing like 4gb of vram, but if you have it it can use it. I've 1.2Gb of vram, some of the lads have less and it runs pretty well. For my setup, I've all the uk GenX areas, all of the uk2000 airports, a load of WOAI including a BA fleet that's using the VC10s, Tridents, Argosys, 1-11 etc, REX Overdrive + HD, QW146 etc etc on a 3 year old Intel i5 2500k and a 2 year old nvidia 560ti.
sure if you throw hardware at it, it will be better, and there are a few bugs, but its no worse than FSX.

Thanks, Dave that worked a treat.DaveG wrote:This is a known problem. Something to do with the setting for the surfaces. If you use the very latest version of ADE it can be corrected.
Have a read here: http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showth ... p?t=428216
George, I've not come across this yet but thanks for the info.GHD wrote:There is still a problem with drawSurface and drawDetail for aprons. They need to be edited individually whereas the taxiways can be corrected en-masse.

Hi Ben,TSR2 wrote:For my setup, I've all the uk GenX areas...
I'm getting an absolutely dreadful case of "the blurries" with GenX along the south coast - have you noticed this on your set up? I can cure it by switching from full screen to windowed mode for a few seconds to allow it to re-focus then back again but this won't be practical when the Lightning sim is in use!

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Hmmm - yup, exactly same set-up as me, though I have 6GB DDR3 RAM and my 560Ti is just 1GB - I have run in windowed mode up to now and so far it's okay, with a solid 30fps, but I have only done some limited flying so far (with JF Real Scenery and UK2K airfields etc) as it takes a while to get things ship-shape before commiting to more 'serious' flying. I'm currently still working through my flights and missions and changing the aircraft used to ones that are installed in P3D.TSR2 wrote: I've 1.2Gb of vram, some of the lads have less and it runs pretty well. One day I must spend some time sorting AI, though. Flight1 don't want UT2 being used in P3D and as it calls home regularly, I don't want to end up being black listed (like those referred to in the case I linked to earlier). I know I could block it from calling home, but I don't really want to go down that route.
The WOAI I tried in FSX over some time, never seemed to work out that well.
Sorry if I missed it - but has anyone tried Scotflight yet?
Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Hi George, I've a few more of Ricks ones working too, but i think there is something Funny with some of the AI shipping. I've found Fearless on her own, and Ark, but in areas where I'd expect to see Glamorgan, Montrose Hermes etc, I get a crash to desktop.
Ben.

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
A comparison between Tangmere's Lightning Sim on P3D v1 and v2 running with the new GTX 780 card I fitted yesterday:

This is P3D v1.4 at Tangmere. I've removed the static Lightnings on the ORP as they don't work in v2. The frame rate of 29 is only marginally better than the 22-25 we got with the old GTX 660 Ti (1Gb) I replaced.

This is P3D v2 at Tangmere. The settings are more or less the same but I haven't set up the weather yet. As you can see from the 3-figure frame rate L-M's efforts in re-writing the program's graphics engine seems to have worked. On the subject of FRs, I noticed rates in the 400s flying at about 5000ft near the Isle of Wight but I know those figures are meaningless on their own - I don't doubt those rates will go smartly downwards when I add more 3-D objects and replace the current single projected image with the planned 3 48" screens. It seems, though, that v2 with a good gpu has the reserve of power to make sure that it will remain smooth and responsive in areas of dense scenery which is what I was looking for.
Those with sharp eyes may have noticed a couple of problems that show up in those two screen shots. Several objects are missing in v2 - the hangar to the left of the windsock, for example - and some of the trees have their textures missing. These are minor but there is a showstopper as the shots below show.

Approaching Portsmouth Harbour (densely packed with 3-D objects courtesy of DaveB) the "blurries" can be clearly seen with the GenX ground textures badly out of focus.

This shot was taken a second or two after the previous with the sim in pause. You'll note that GenX has now jumped into focus. A couple of seconds later, with the sim still in pause, the ground focus became even sharper and the frame rates jumped up from 49 to 68 where they remained. On releasing the pause, and flying a wide circuit over the IoW, the same area was out of focus again when I returned to fly over it once more. This out of focus effect happens in all areas, not just Portsmouth, by the way.
It didn't happen with v1.4 with the identical scenery and obviously it's not practical to keep pausing the sim to wait for things to come into focus so does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could try?

Re: For those who haven't noticed...
Try limiting the frame rate to 30. That usually helps with the blurries. I was hacking around yesterday over GenX at over 1000kts with no blurries at all
