I wasn't sure what they were but they looked pretty nice...Not the extreme accuracy of the Reds but I thought it was very well filmed and with very interesting "in cockpit" angles :)

Indeed, Peter. I particularly like the areal shot going vertical in the loop.
Also the red white and blue smoke. :agree:

Thanks for that Peter, very enjoyable. I too was surprised by the aircraft choice, although looking at some of the pilots I suspect they might be the retired Russian air force display team

I would guess they are ex display team like the blades are ex red arrows. The Russian team fly sun's iirc shown at the beginning of the clip.

They're all big fellas too aren't they

Thinking about it, the L39 was built in the Czech Republic so it's not so outlandish for a Russian display team to be using them. Makes a nice change from it being prefixed Mig or Su. :)

I've watched it again and very nice it is too ;)

And HD too if you can (720P available).

Simply beautiful and such incredible photography.
I've kept a copy for 'future reference'.

Hi all! My first post here ;)

I saw this display team lot of years ago in Czech air fest in Hradec Kralove. They have L39 but with worn out old camouflage with traces of red stars :agree: from the first moment it was clear that these are not "ordinary" profesional team. The display was in fact crazy, they get even more from the planes than solo display pilots of L39 :agree:
The reason is simply...in USSR they have something like "aeroclubs" which in our country is a group of people who belongs to some small local airstrip where they fly especialy with gliders...in USSR in back days it means bunch of "hobby" pilots who fly jets like L-29 and L-39...it was their way to teach young pilots and prepare them for army.
Each member of the grou has thousands of hours on L-29 and L-39 so they was like a single crature together with the plane...I remeber one moment when solo pilot from the group put on low fly-by (low means not more than 10feets) on the runway treshold...but the runway in Hradec Kralove has an elevation...so in the middle of the runway he don´t have more than 4 feets :agree:
It was one of the best if not the best show I saw from aerobatics group on jets...it was even more crazy than frecce tricolori...from that days lot of changed - they are preffesionals and they don´t do that much crazy stuff as they did before...I think it was one of their first displays outside russia...

Sorry for my english ;)

Hi Charlee and welcome to the forum :)

Your English is fine so don't worry about that  I understood you anyway

I wonder if these guys have displayed in the UK or if there's another team that use the L39. I'm sure I've seen an L39 display team before but I can't remember who they were. The old memory isn't what it could be :wall:
