Ubislate 7Ci

Post by J0hn »

Some of you guys may have seen this in the news a few months back. It's the cheapest Android tablet on the market, starting at £29.99

http://ubislate.co.uk/product.php?prodid=1

I've had my eye on it for some time, and this morning decided to give it a try. However, I was very disappointed to find a £10 delivery charge slapped on top (once I'd found "UK" in the ridiculously organised, and I use the term loosely, destination list) at the checkout. Some would say £40 is still cheap for an android tablet, but I disagree. I can get a very good spec 7" tablet from a good supplier in Hong Kong for £55 inclusive. This UbiSlate is not high spec - far from it, it's the base requirement.

It would be better if they explained why the delivery would be that much. I order lots of this kind of thing, and the norm is between £4 and £7 for me. Yes, it's just £3 difference - but I hate being taken for a punter. It reminds me very much of those shady ebay dealers, where they have rock bottom prices and then slap on a large delivery charge that makes it no cheaper than any other deal (rapidly catching on at Amazon marketplace, too).

Anyway, I just wanted to ask if anyone here has bought one of these tablets, and what they think of it?

Thanks :)

£10 shipping for something like that is ridiculous in this day and age. I recently bought a Nokia Lumia 520 for £80-odd postage free. OK.. it was from a big retailer who may be able to command preferable rates from couriers (linked to volume) but even so, a tenner is poop. As you say though.. they're not alone. One TV retailer I can think of who I've bought from before and will never buy from again has a default shipping cost of £7.99. Not bad you might think but when you see the variety of sale items.. you can end up buying something off there for a quid (honestly.. for a quid) but still pay £7.99 shipping.
Unless you desparately want one of these tablets (and I believe you do) you're gonna have to bite the bullet and cough up :(

It pains me to say, you're probably right, Dave!

At least I can report on what it's like running FS-related apps - the main reason I'm buying it.
