Many active people that aprt from the way they are dressed are just like us, sadly all will now be dead.

Loved the 'safety' bowlers and flat caps the workers wore and not a single 'Hi-vis' in sight

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Steam driven cranes, with cabs made of corrugated tin, and whistles! Horses and carts to deliver the components. Wooden scaffolds. Hundreds of hard working men.
I've watched it three times, and noticed something new each time. I loved it!

Indeed
...and when it comes to the actual construcion, it's hammers and hammered tools. Like you say, brute force.
All built true, level and square to the reference line whilst sitting at an incline on the slip.
Truly a magnificent display of team art.

Great film!
Those men sure knew how to build beautiful ships. The Olympic's slip at Harland and Wolff still exists...sort of. http://www.urbanghostsmedia.com/2009/09 ... s-slipway/
Wouldn't you have loved to own a pub near the shipyard back in those days? Especially on payday!

Indeed Brian
The fitting out basin is still in use...that's where they used to add the machinery, funnels and winglets
The awful thing is that these men were very highly skilled craftsmen, yet, were paid and treated as if they were stupid halfwits.
So looked down on by the ruling classes, yet it is those people that made the country what it was.
Lord Toffynose couldn't saw a plank in half.... and it's the likes of him that has made the country what it is now.
