JF/AFS Eurofighter

Post by DaveB »

Hi Chaps :hello:

The JF sale for the Eurofighter is coming to an end and I'm slightly tempted. Has anyone got this and if so, is it worth the £8-odd sale price?

I'm presuming it's the AFS model *-)

I got it for about a fiver with reward points. The model is by Aeroplane Heaven not AFS.

Ahh.. I see. Thanks Angus :)

Was it worth the fiver? I'm fresh out of reward points after buying the Lightning.. which was in a flash sale a week later 8)

That works Dave.. I tried it

Dunno what to say really *-) It's a lot more frame heavy than I expected it to be and I can't really see why :dunno: Having taken it from Llanbedr up and around the Loop and back, the whole experience felt a tad jerky.. this noting that I had only one MFD on (out of view) and the HUD off. It was giving between 19.9 and 30fps.. no in between :S Wondering if it was my setup having a bad hair day.. I loaded up the FGA9 and immediately, the sim loosened up.. a steady 29.9-30fps throughout and that with a host of analogue gauges doing their stuff. Oh.. and it's another candidate to have the nav lights pulled out and refitted with something less obvious! :wall:

All in all.. after one brief session, I'm a bit disappointed and glad I got it in a sale :|

Looking at the performance issues, I think it may be the radar that's causing the hiccups, even if it's not displayed. If you comment out the radar gauge in the [Vcockpit06] section of the panel.cfg it seems to help quite a bit.

Hiya Dave :hello:

Thanks for that.. I'll give it a go. Reminiscent of the Iris F-15 with it's 'killer' HUD :-O

The last Typhoon I remember flying was probably the AFS model. I had the Alpha model too which felt very 'conventional' by comparison. The AFS model felt exactly how you'd expect a 'computer flown' model to fly if that makes sense.. it's flight envelope was wild! On the ground however, it was like trying to taxi the Bristol Freighter on one engine in a high cross-wind 8) The JF/AH model feels conventional if I can use that word again.

I'm pretty sure there was discussion on this release on the forum here - and the review in PC Pilot, which said it was a load of tat.

The topic went something along the lines of "thanks for giving us an unbiased review" or similar - and people agreeing it was pretty poor standard ware.

Sorry, Dave - been busy else I would have warned you off.
