For anyone reading this and not familiar with bikes - here's a comparison with the replacement filter:

The oil had been renewed, along with the filter. I think that's all they bothered with! That was once they had got the sump plug off. It took me loads of levering away the aftermarket pipes:

So yes, the oil does pee out all over the downpipes when you finally manage to pull the plug!
I was, however, very impressed with the state of the plugs. They have obviously been in for many years, but the fuel mixture would seem to be set correctly:

So yes, I have my work cut out! Tomorrow it's the fork oil and new EBC pads on, then back together and hopefully feeling a lot better. Then in summer, strip it all down again for a sanding down and respray of the frame and swingarm. Just need the appropriate weather for outside spraying.
