Not only does it save lives, but deposits and aircraft in tact enogh to fairly quickly find out what went wrong. Always a concern with others perhaps about get a similar fault.

That was great Garry,
Not knowing anything about the Parachute on these aircraft but does anyone know if the decent when it is deployed can be guided at all or is it pot luck as to were the aircraft lands,
Thanks for posting,
Roger.

AFAIK...you pop it and that's it.
It's standard on the Cirrus I think

I think at least one Flight Sim Cirrus has it fitted.

This vid of a Rans-7 is I think the best example of a pilot walking away from a situation where had the crash not killed him, it probably would, the fire would have left no doubt.

Should be a minimum requirment on small aircraft, coming from a VGS background we had paracutes when i went up for a pleasure flight in a cessna, i was concerned that we didnt have anything... They definatly save lives, not always the frame but the lives are important.

Re: Two Saved by Light Aircraft Parachute
Oh I dunno. I've been for quite a number of pleasure flights in my time in an assortment of aircraft and have never been fussed about not having a parachute. I've also been up in one particular aircraft 6 times and never landed with it
The thrill of flying has always far outweighed any fear of crashing.

Re: Two Saved by Light Aircraft Parachute
One thing I can say...a lot of people still get killed in Cirrus crashes.
If the engine stops, you have a good chance of a forced landing anyway..
Aerobatics...well that's an avoidable risk.
The sudden events like collisions, flying into ground, trying to turn back after take off and stalling, these sorts of crashes, probably the majority, would not benefit from a parachute.

Actually.. I did wonder about Cirrus safety when they said 'X' amount had been saved by the parachute system. Think I'd sooner have something less likely to fall from the sky
You'll not catch me in an FS model unless it's one with the parachute
