Dennis, hope the 5/11 explanation was satisfactory, and my intent now understood. ;)

Unfortunately, Dave didn't put pen to paper, so here's my summation of his outing:
HAMBLEDON HILL

We climbed the Hill at Hambledon,
For the Solstice, it was nigh.
We knew we'd see things better,
Once all of us got high.

With cider safely in cool jugs,
We scaled that pleasant height.
And saw the purple hills all round,
In wondrous pastel light.

The Sun went down so gracefully,
But its light continued on.
We sat a while suspended,
Till the cider was all gone.

We cannot stay here longer,
Our valley homes now call.
Our feet and minds both wander,
Past soldiers, kings, and all.

The fort upon the hilltop casts
Long shadows on the ground.
Echoes of the past among us,
Ancient spirits all around.

So now we're nearing home again,
We leave those souls to rest.
We're glad we didn't take the beer,
Cos we like cider best.

Cheers, Mike.

EUREKA!!!! Bit slow on the uptake Mike. Only just realised 5/11=5th Nov. In my case 511=RAF Squadron, of which I was a proud member.

Enjoyed the poem. Looked up Hambledon Hill on Google. Very interesting place.

OAT at 0630z is -1.5C, and the grass is all a funny white colour. I 've seen that before, but it's been so long since I saw it, I can't remember what it's called *-)
