Best Toshiba Laptop for FS ?

Post by oliverd »

I just love FS-that's why I am here!
My employer has kindly offered to buy me a new Toshiba Laptop as a retirement present-cost not a consideration!
Anyone any ideas on best model to run FS ?
Thanks

Bye for now.....

I'm wondering why it has to be Toshiba, none of my business of course but there are more cutting edge laptops out there (Origin e.g.), not that there is anything wrong with Toshiba.

Hi Folks

Oliver -
Do not expect too much of Toshiba models. ;)

re: Qosmio X70-A-12W
I have it's elder/bigger brother, Qosmio X500-149.

These are not laptops,
think desktop replacement.

Heavy -
Very.

Heat -
Unuseable on knees, (also would block cooling inlets).

Noisy -
When purchased, initially silent except when under heavy load.
Over time, becoming increasingly noisy,
with fans eventually staying on permanently.
Mechanism is not cleanable without a FULL teardown.

Speakers -
Utter crap, oriented vertically upwards, and can't deliver any volume.

Ergonomics -
Atrocious, majority of connectors are on RHS,
exactly where your mouse-hand wants to be.

Even worse on model you've quoted,
where connectors are nearer the front.

That exhaust will keep your finger-tips warm/crisped.

Battery Life -
What ?
None if considering playing FS.

Services & Software -
Bundled software is W95 type crap, now performed by OS.
Office is cut-down unlicensed trial-ware.
You'll spend 1st week uninstalling crap, & disabling unnescessary services.

Screen -
Colour depth is x bpp,
FS default textures tend to show colour graduation banding.

On receipt, immediately check for faulty pixels.
Return if unsatisfactory.

Recommend -
Pay for the 4 year warranty extension,
at least get one or more full cleans out of them.

That said, it runs FSX & Flight very nicely.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated.
Unfortunately I have no choice in the matter of make - it's the company's buying policy.
At least I get something from them!
