FlyBe to maintain A400M

Post by TSR2 »

FLYBE WINS MOD CONTRACT

Regional airline Flybe - yes that's correct - has won an MOD contract to provide maintenance for the UK's newest military transporter, the Airbus A400M, according to Reuters. The news comes ahead of next week's Farnborough Airshow which, aside from providing aeronautical entertainment, usually sees a number of aircraft deals announced. Last week, a consortium supplying RAF Voyager jets, which have a dual role as passenger planes for military personnel and air tankers, agreed to lease one of the converted Airbus A330s to Thomas Cook Airlines.

Does this include when they go U/S en-route?

What abut time of war, will they have to work weekends?

Looks and smells like the usual cost saving b*llocks to me. We never learn, what next, contract Typhoon pilots?

I'd imagine it's third line maintenance, the kind of thing Marshalls were doing on the C-130K fleet for decades without any problems.

If so the answers to your questions would be:

Not what they're contracted to do, so not an issue.

Depends where the war is, outside the UK mainland no, because the level of work they're doing wouldn't have an impact as it's scheduled well in advance.

You'll find Typhoon pilots already are on a contract.

FLybe maintenace does work weekends and nights as and when needed. I've never know a breakdown to be affected by the time of day or day of the week. I think the RAF is more 9-5 than Flybe. *-)

From the little I know of such things, they had a pretty good reputation for 146 series aircraft and did the maintenance for several other operators on that type. Good to see it being kept in the UK.

Indeed Ben :agree: they are up there with the best in their field, no doubt about that :)

I'm please too that it is staying in the UK.
