In the process of the DCS forum discussion of the upcoming Spitfire MkXIV from VEAO (clipped-wing, low back version), some very interesting stuff has come to light - such as the info on this page:
http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=125166&page=12
including the clipped wing test reports and several personal combat reports from RAF pilots of the time. Note the second one is of an attack "South of Warendorf" - hey! just outside Gütersloh!

That link won't connect.
I see the address ends in .ru
Maybe part of our sanctions against Russia
I read once that the pilots of the time didn't like the clipped wings.

Seems the DCS forum is having issues at the moment. It's very well worn, Mike, so I'm sure it will be up again soon
