Castles in the Air

Post by JohnWillimas »

I think I've been afflicted by nit-picking-itis. I was quite enjoying the story of Robert Watson-Watt on TV when I suddenly spotted the fact that the techies were busily rewiring the power for some bit of valve-driven gubbins with BLUE & BROWN wires. That's all wrong, it should be red & black, I said to myself. Quite lost track of the plot for a moment! (otherwise I thought an OK play....)

Hi John.I started watching this programme but for no particular reason that I think of,lost interest after a while.Like you I also tend to nit pick but didn't spot the wiring issue, but maybe I'd switched over prior to that.
I did however watch the two episodes of 'Classic British Aircraft' which featured the Rapide,Anson and Twin Pioneer.
I happened on these by chance otherwise I would have posted a heads up. :) EricT

...... on the way to sending a HU, Eric realised that the goldfish had drunk half its water, and on the way to get the water......(that's what really happened John)
Cheers, Mike.

I missed Castles in the Air but did catch the 2 episodes of CBA. One was about 'Twins' (the one Eric saw) and there was another which I can't for the life of me remember what it was about. Today is Saturday and the prog was on at 10pm on Thur and I can't remember :'( :wall: It'll probably come to me at 3am when I'm up having my first wee of the night

And how come the Anson had grown a few more pots to the engines & when was the mod sanctioned to fit Merlins?
Didn't spot the wiring, just thought that for experimental equipment, why was it painted so nicely, most experimental gubbins is left raw Aluminium.....

I suppose we could be really churlish and say that the aircraft involved in the first tests was a Handley Page Heyford and not a Dominie as in the show.... (it's shown on the memorial -not too far from me - pictured briefly at the end of the play : here's a link: http://www.alltravels.com/united-kingdo ... deo-390383However, that's almost certainly splitting a hair too far. :wasntme:

I too lost interest about half way through and gave up. Too many of the characters, most notably Lindemann and Churchill , were cardboard cutouts . I was struck , however, by the strong physical resemblance to Watson-Watt of the chap who played him

Yes that's what it was,cardboard characters,synthetic. It was Eddy Izzard playing Watson-Watt and,as you said,the resemblance was uncanny.EricT :)
