Elite fan?

Post by J0hn »

Then you must be at least as old as me!

But don't you wish there was something so fantastic on the pooter today?

Well, apparently, there is - only beta at the moment, but growing exponentially into an entire galaxy, hundreds of thousands of light years wide!

It's 45 minutes - but if you are a true Elitian, you will love it!

I never actually owned Elite back then (I had a Speccy, which wouldn't run it. I used to sit for hours in the barrack room, watching my mate play it on his Vic-20!), though I do now, but I have wished for something similar for some time. This might just be it.

Although it seems to be following the "in" thing at the moment, of releasing a game for a full game price, but restricting it massively and releasing each enlargement of the game for about a fiver a go. That way you end up with a full game, but it cost you about £100 or more!

Here's the product page:

I bought the beta about a month ago. Loving it so far. :)
Just trading my way ATM and upgrading my ship, then popping off to do some bounty hunting / pirating ;)
Not taking it too seriously for now, as all progress will be wiped when the full release happens anyway.

Ah, thanks for the vote of confidence in it - I took a look at the price and, after picking my chin up from the floor, bookmarked it for when it's on sale!

Mind you, Christmas is around the corner...

Looks interesting. As for the pricing, it equates to a night out which is over and done with one night whereas this if it is your thing just keeps on giving.

That's if you have "nights out" ;)

If I did, it would be unlikely to cost me more than a tenner, as I am on a miserly government pension scheme.

By the way - I don't smoke, either, and alcohol is restricted to one bottle of Drambuie (in my coffee - not all at once) per year. :(

At that price, I'll stick with X3: Terran Conflict ...

It looks great, and I enjoyed the original Elite immensely. Not sure its enough to lure me away from Eve Online, though.

Prepare for a real trip down memory lane:

Those who are old enough to remember, of course! Ahem... think that's probably most of us... :$

By the way, I've read that the expected retail price of Elite: Dangerous will be £35 - so about the same as most current games, which isn't as bad as first thought.

Hurrah! SWMBO just offered to buy me the beta!

It's a Chrimbo pressie, though, so I hope the beta will still be available that long. *-)

Thanks for the link, Dave, I'll be sure to grab that as well.
