I think the deep curved engine cowling was what led to them being called Buchon, which is a species of pidgeon with barrel shaped chests, or something like that. Incidentally, there are five up for sale in their original Battle of Britain film paint schemes, so hopefully we will see more ersatz Me-109s in the air.

Ahh.. didn't realise that was the reason for their name. Something else learned :thumbsup:

Surprising those 5 are sat there awaiting a buyer. They do have a reputation for crashing though which may be why :worried: I think we'd all hoped that Black 6 might be restored to flying condition but when the MoD say no.. it usually means no. Not sure if it's still on their books *-)

Black 6 was restored to static condition and is now at Hendon, Dave. I was down there a few months ago, and very nice it looks too. :)

Yes mate. I think the initial hope was that it would be returned to airworthy condition rather than static. Regardless.. they did a grand job on it ;)
