Spitfire mowing the lawn

Post by J0hn »

Yesterday afternoon, my wife and I were quite amazed to see a Spitfire doing repeated short circuits at Boston Aerodrome, dropping down very low (we're talking lower than the rooftops) over the field every run.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what that was about?

Of course, had we known in advance, we would have been there, as it's only a mile away :(

It's one of those days for me, JOhn.
Being inquisitive, I tried to look up recent events at Boston Airport, only to be told that there ain't one.
Then I found this:

What is the closest airport to Boston in Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom?
The closest international and non-international airports to Boston in Lincolnshire, England, United Kingdom are listed below in order of increasing distance.
International Airports Near Boston
Name Distance Directions
Robin Hood Airport 85.5 km / 53.1 miles To From
Other Airports Near Boston
Name Distance Directions
Regional Airport 21.2 km / 13.2 miles To From
RAF Station Airport 40 km / 24.8 miles To From
RAF Station Airport 50.9 km / 31.6 miles To From
RAF Station Airport 69.8 km / 43.4 miles To From
Hartford CT Rail Airport72.5 km / 45.1 milesTo From

Maybe the last episode of Dr Who has affected me, because I think that I saw RAF Station Airport in 3 different places at once.
EDIT:
NOW I see that it's called Boston Aero Park, and there's a 5 pound landing fee. Maybe he was looking for his wallet?

The calendar of events for September 2014 is wholly blank, with this comment below:

Sad to say, I'm none the wiser, UNLESS it was a late arrival for the June 2014 crop sprayer fly-in? :dunno:

Well, Mike, if you had put "Boston Aerodrome" into Google, you would have come up with this:

http://www.bostonaeroclub.co.uk/

It's the first result in mine!

It actually runs alongside the rugby field!

Every July they have a "Fly-In" event - sometimes with quite exotic participants.

PS - the closest ICAO registered airfield is Fenland, EGCL ;)

Ah, nice one

I bought my last car from that dealer you can see South off the strip! Damn rip-off merchant, he is! :agree:

I'm quite amazed, though. A short while back I saw one of the aircraft and said to The Missus it looked like a CTsw, but couldn't be. Looking down that list - it was! :-O (I flew PAD's model quite a lot around the UK Farmstrips).

I'm really going to have to go along one of these days - I'm just worried it's going to suck me in, and I already have so little time.

Ripper source of info. from Garry, thanks, mister. ;)
Looked up Northolt, and found my old house in Edwards Avenue, South Ruislip.
The old roundabout at the Southern end of the airfield is much modified. It looks like they may have moved the Polish War Memorial.
