Crashes are pretty much expected now and then around here. Used to be worse in Fosdyke, when I lived there - we were very close (and sometimes under when we were out on the bike) to the run-in to Holbeach range and they come over pretty darned low (I think the official deck is 250ft) at high speed and very loud noise. The F-15s were easily the loudest. Weston will be near the start of that low-level run-in.
I think the last one was quite a a while ago - a Harrier went down across the A-17 from the village and the pilot didn't make it. This guy was lucky.
Come to think of it, this probably explains what that Merlin was doing that I saw streaming along just above tree-top level

Isn't the F-15D the two-seater version ? Was he flying without a W.S.O. ?

D is the trainer version of the C so can be happily flown single crew, the E is the two seat bomber variant that has a WSO.Paul K wrote:Isn't the F-15D the two-seater version ? Was he flying without a W.S.O. ?

What I find amazing about these military incidents is that they always come down near houses and a school. If the pilot had been killed he would have been hailed a hero for steering his doomed plane away from said buildings - the press always play it this way.

If God had meant us to fly, he would have given us tickets.

Ah that's it, I was getting the D and E mixed up. Thanks Skippy.SkippyBing wrote: D is the trainer version of the C so can be happily flown single crew, the E is the two seat bomber variant that has a WSO.
