I am going back a few years Joe. They weren't (and still aren't) a band I'm familiar with though what they played.. I recognised. SWMBO is at work tomorrow (Boxing Day) but I'll confirm with her if it WAS Snow Patrol (she remembers EVERYTHING). Maybe they were just trying to be good. Maybe it wasn't them after all

Yes, me too, Nigel. If you want to hear the definitive version of any Beatles' song, you simply go to the Beatles own recording and there it is. With just one exception - Joe Cocker's "With A Little Help From My Friends".

I guess that we all have our exceptions to any "rule", Pete; for me, "Jealous Guy" by Brian Ferry beats the pants off John Lennon's version.(even though John sounds more contrite). Just to add fuel -"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" - I'd previously only heard covers, and was busting to hear the original. I was SO disappointed when I heard the Beatles' own recording of it.

My memory of him is really only about his rendition of the Beatles classic

After murdering that, I, sadly perhaps, could never really take him seriously

Still, he gave many much pleasure and the World is always a lesser place without.

If nothing else, it does show freedom to express oneself to extremes and not a society that forces everything down a narrow tramline.

He stems from the time when that freedom to express was brought to the fore and a such, he is one of the greats in his field.

Just wasn't my cup of tea....so what!!

I was fortunate enough to see JC perform this at the Sheffield Arena some years ago. We were under the impression it was an Eric Clapton concert (my sisters mis-information again!!)...

That would sum it up

We'd seen Eric Clapton a few times both at the RAH and Wembley Stadium but prices had risen to such a degree.. we decided not to book the RAH again. My dear sister phoned later to say she could get tickets to see 'him' in Sheffield and as we'd not seen him earlier in the year (and the cost was reasonable).. we said yes. Whether she knew exactly what the concert was, I'll probably never know.. we don't speak now (no.. I don't speak now).
