Re: Flightstore MEGA Clearance on UK VFR scenery
Well for less than £15 I have ordered 9 dvs for VFR fs2004 scenery, had similar before but at that price and including Scotland and Ireland and the isles I couldn't no, not sure if it has night lighting? Pity no one ever did the Channel Isles in FS2004

Re: Flightstore MEGA Clearance on UK VFR scenery
Thanks for that Dave. It seems very much like I'm going to have to live with a tree-less volume 7 then. What a bummer
There are some other great deals going at Flightstore.. looks like they're clearing out their DVD/CD stocks. As an example.. the Vertigo Studios models are going for a fiver each (full price is a lot more) so I picked up the Bear Cat. As an alternative.. the 'set' of VR models can be got.. I think for a tenner which is a ridiculous price.
Fingers crossed nothing new gets released this month or I'll be needing that hammer

Some First Class Simulations aircraft are also discounted but unfortunately not the Sunderland

Question for those in the know-
Does it mean I'll have zero trees if I didn't buy relevant Treescapes?

Re: Flightstore MEGA Clearance on UK VFR scenery
Hello Mike,
I'd coveted the UK VFR sceneries for some time. I'd had ORBX for a while and disliked the lack of even the most significant landmarks (eg Durham Cathedral). I saw this sale a while ago and I bought all the UK sceneries. After a PC rebuild I installed FSX afresh and the VFR scenery. I set up a flight from EGNV and lo and behold, nothing. A couple of sheds, no trees, no fences, no vehicles, nothing. Just bare ground. I googled a bit and found that you have to get above 2000' to see anything and that turned out to be true. As far as I'm concerned this VFR scenery is rubbish; why should I have to buy other stuff and spend ages tweaking? Why doesn't it just work out of the box?
Some time in 1996 I was at a developer conference and went to a lecture by what we used to call an 'Evangelist'. His thing was interfaces but he came out with something that has stuck with me ever since... "if you're not being productive with a piece of software inside ten minutes, throw it away".
After I've checked the licensing rules, if you want it, I'll happily give you this tosh for the price of posting a DVD. I've gone back to ORBX. At least you get to see something all the way to the ground.

Re: Flightstore MEGA Clearance on UK VFR scenery
In a word Mike.. yes. There are numerous reasons for this and I doubt I can remember them all but off the top of my head.. the default world works off textures and landclass according to how M$ defined the area. If an area is deemed to be 'city'.. landclass will plop city-type buildings in it. If it's rural.. landclass will put tree's and houses e t c. Looking at the default MS scenery, you'll know how inaccurate that is so it's pointless having phototextures using the default landlass/autogen setup putting trees and buildings in the wrong place so GenX (I use this as an example) kills the autogen off. What you see in the air will be an accurate (given how accurate FSX is) picture of what is really there but without autogen. Depending on how high you are.. this may not be a problem but if you fly low'n'slow.. the world becomes flat and lifeless. Treescapes isn't landclass/autogen.. it's scenery in it's own right. Each tree is placed according to where tree's/wooded areas are shown on OS maps for a given area and for the most part.. they coincide exactly with GenX (and/or other photo textures) so.. if trees are shown on the OS maps, you'll see them in FSX in the same area.. +/-. Of course.. putting each tree exactly where it should be is impossible and not each and every tree is defined on the OS maps but you can see what I mean.Does it mean I'll have zero trees if I didn't buy relevant Treescapes?
Hope this clears the mud a bit

Had to join in the rush! Have ordered the Isle of Man, Scilly Isles, and Guernsey by Earth Simulations. Hope I can install them now they have gone out of business! DVD versions should be OK I hope. I also ordered the FCS Vickers Wellington as it was £10 - if I don't like the textures I will change them!
