Yeah, I saw that, only mine said 20G...Perhaps it indicates the altitude at which you went supersonic. I had never tried it before as I thought it was something they put in for the future when they had given us a Jet Fighter, which of course never happened. :agree:

I am presuming that like me, you did it in the P51.

Aye. The P51 seemed the wise choice.

There is a 40g as well .. I grabbed a screen shot of it using the "X" key. :l forgetting x is fsx screen shot.

V was what I should've used. :wall: so.... it can't be elevation, Mac

So that's a challenge for you. Get a screenie of that 40g thingy.

I've been wondering what aircraft you two have been flying. I couldn't picture the Icon going supersonic in a dive.

Just wondering what bit of the aircraft would be serviceable after a 40g pull up......or even the pilot!

I think the most I ever saw on a real G meter was +10...Those sort of numbers only occurred in snatch pull out of attacking dive +8 was pretty common...The early Venom FB1s developed wing skin cracks at these numbers and were subsequently limited to +6G and had red bands painted on the wings to remind you. These high G counts were only very momentary...You would be unable to actually see a sustained +8 G even with a G-suit as you would be blacked out

IIRC the only bit stressed for 40g on an aircraft is the pilots harness attachments & that in the forward direction in case of a prang!
Pilots at the IAM back in the early 80's were testing pressure breathing under 'g' for sustained 'g' turns & increased their capability by over 1/2 g, but the poor old Hunter had to start off at about 30k' but lost about 10k' after 60 secs. Even then the pilots were knackered at the end of the sortie. I think the Typhoon can achieve a lot better aerodynamically & the pilot has to wear a partial pressure suit to cope with the increased oxygen pressure during 'g' manoeuvres. One reason also the F16 has a more reclined seat angle is to increase g capability, but the Typhoon keeps the 'standard' seat angle I think because of fin clearance if ejecting at high speed.
I can imagine though that one can get peak g's higher than the sustained capability due to turbulence, but that can play havok with the fatigue calculations.
In a sim its a lot easier sitting in a constant 1g environment......

It isn't anything to do with "g's" .
I realized that when I ..... oh...

Anyway...

I almost got to 40,000 feet last night ..... 39 400 something...

I think that all fighters will lose altitude in dogfighting circle...It has to be a descending circle to maintain enough speed for a high G turn...Even the Lightning with full reheat would lose speed very quickly if a hard turn were sustained. I never did pressure breathing at more than 1G at the IAM and did not have a pressure helmet (just the toggled down mask). However, I did have the pressure jerkin and G-suit for my training pressure breathing runs on air and for my explosive decompression on oxygen.

Our Mk2 Lightning Simulator was fitted with a G seat that attempted to simulate the sensation of G by inflating bladders in the seat cushion...The idea was to simulate the sensation of being pressed down in your seat. However, for me it generated a sensation more like Negative G as you were being forced upwards against your shoulder straps and the pain of those straps cutting into your shoulders is precisely what you feel when pushing round an inverted turn. Needless to say, we left the G seat switched off :)
