During the mid 1950s RAF Apprentices at RAF Locking used to throw their caps high in the air after the final passing out parade.
Re: Hats Up!...
Great photo, but what I want to know is; who picks all the hats up and how do they ever figure out whose hat was whose?

I gathered that Peter, a bit ambiguous, but I was referring to the picture in general.
Regarding the collection and identification, my first thought was the response by the powers that be to any damage

Re: Hats Up!...
The graduates pick up the hats, find the name printed in them and start calling out the owners name.
I do believe that is the tradition.
