We've all seen these high wind landings but .......
........ this one must have been quite a ride.
Kudos to the pilot. I suppose the final decision is the captain's, but is there a technical "limit" for landing conditions?

Back in the late 90's I was a passenger in a Piper Chieftain from Llanbedr to Benbecula. The aircraft was a civilian operated single pilot contract as opposed to the 'normal' Farnborough shuttle. Weather was pretty rough but as we were about to touch down at Benbecula we hit a very strong gust (I think it was gusting up to 50 kts with a crosswind) which the pilot managed (thank goodness) to catch very quickly. Our Chief pilot was in the co-pilots seat & we all applauded the civvy pilot!
Reminds me of another trip out of Benbecula in the Llanbedr Devon, the weather had turned somewhat foul during the day & there was a strong gusting crosswind, now that was a hairy take off, needing a lot of crabbing once airborne just to try and stay aligned with the runway!
Worst trip to Benbecula was in a Jetstream from West Freugh, an Astazou powered one, very noisy on the props all the way up to cruise altitude, (too many revs & the tips going supersonic) but on the slow descent it quietened down. I was sat at the back & was getting a lot of burnt kerosene smell, ( a bit nauseating) not sure if the heating, or the pressurisation system was leaking!

Well done that KLM pilot. Amazing flying skills !
What's also amazing is how rapidly a plane the size of that 777 responds to control inputs. Its got the roll rate of a Chipmunk !

I was just in to post the link here ,, after reading a news site
yes a very timely wobble for wheels touchdown.
in winds up to 70 something mph. no less. ... they're saying it was the highest recorded winds during the summer , since recording weather began.
comment.
how come my 777 doesn't roll left to right as fast as the KLM 777. Mine's all slow and lethargic .

A friend of mine who flies the things for a living reckons that the video has been speeded up by about 5-10% to increase the dramatic effect. He says that although the 777 is pretty responsive, at approach speeds the inertia is considerable and the controls are slower to respond.
