HU "First Light" Tonight
BBC2 21:10Hrs. Repeat showing. A marvellous book, one of the best flying stories published and I think that this TV documentary is very well presented.
Re: HU "First Light" Tonight
I've already seen this and it's very good.I've also read the book twice and the programme captures the atmosphere of the book well.

Watched it for the first time tonight. Docudramas are not usually my cup of tea, but this was wonderfully done, and there was some stunningly beautiful flying footage in it . S/Ldr Geoffrey Wellum DFC will be 94 on Tuesday - many happy returns to him

Thanks, Hobby. I watched it for the first time last night. I can only echo cstorey's comment -hobby wrote:BBC2 21:10Hrs. Repeat showing. A marvellous book, one of the best flying stories published and I think that this TV documentary is very well presented.
My only little niggles, are that in one shot after being peppered by machinegun fire, 'smoke' is shown 'wafting' gently from the engine (obviously done with CGI).cstorey wrote:Docudramas are not usually my cup of tea, but this was wonderfully done, and there was some stunningly beautiful flying footage in it.
And all pilots were shown closing their canopies prior to take off. I believe it was usual to keep the canopy open in case of an accident. That way, they wouldn't have to tackle a buckled canopy in a burning aeroplane.
And finally, A very Happy Birthday to S/Ldr Geoffrey Wellum DFC.

Watched the film for the second time ands still find it absolutely brilliant however, the book is far more informative and have read that at least three times.
