Glasgow Rangers New Signing

Post by Tomliner »

Brian's recent post about whisky and Scottish accents brought this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oUXhW3JC9Zw to mind.
Enjoy. :) EricT

I think I understood about 1 word in 100! Bit like understanding some of our locals when they speak the local patois!

Away back in the glory days of Celtic, Jock Stein made an urgent trip to Israel to interview a very talented striker who wanted to play for the Bhoys. All was going well until the lad pointed out that while terms were excellent, he would not be able to play on the Sabbath...Jock, great manager that he was, responded "Well, son, I'm sorry to miss you, but why not talk to this man? - He's the boss of Rangers, and they can't play fitba' on Setterdays either" :hide:

So Keith might struggle with the doric in this call centre sketch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDNN6Ni ... igGNM#t=24

Watch out for Chic Murray telling the long nose story - a sadly lost legend.

I certainly would have the same problems in spelling as did the girl in Basingstoke! I would say though that the Scots accent there was easier to understand than Glaswegian. Although maybe thats to do with my first name?
Good laugh though!

Many years ago I had occasion to change some engine parts on a Vanguard up in Glasgow, this required a full power run up, so I called Glasgow ground for taxi clearance...that resulted in the first time, anywhere in the world, that I was totally unable to understand a single instruction received over the RT!!!
I tried "say again" twice, but it ended with me requesting a "follow me truck", I suppose it was funny afterwards because I had an avionics guy with me at the time and he just sat there in the F/O's seat with his mouth hanging open staring at the Jeppesen plate on his knee.
