spider in the bath

Post by Airspeed »

You know when you see a daddy longlegs struggling to climb out of the bath,
do you put olive oil on your hands, feet, knees & elbows and hop into that empty bath just to share the frustration?

You're weird!
Cheers, Mike.

OK Keith, it depends on which university you went to:
Pholcidae, commonly known as cellar spiders, are a spider family in the suborder Araneomorphae.

Some species, especially Pholcus phalangioides, are commonly called daddy long-legs spider, granddaddy long-legs spider, carpenter spider, daddy long-legger, or vibrating spider. Confusion often arises because the name "daddy long-legs" is also applied to two distantly related arthropod groups: the harvestmen (which are arachnids but not spiders), and crane flies (which are insects).

The story goes that their venom is stronger than black widows, but being such small-bodied creatures, can't deliver much, so a bite won't kill humans. They certainly kill larger spiders than themselves, though.
Won't waste forum space on pix, but there are plenty of images on line under "daddy longlegs".

Joe, that's cruel. Where's your sense of love for a fellow Earthling? :OB:
Cheers, Mike.

Mike, Thanks for the description, I did guess that there were spiders from your subject, just a bit of 'leg pulling'! (Goes away singing a piece with Fred Astaire 'Daddy Longlegs' - or was it that French actress Leslie Caron?) - Brainfade coming on. :hide:

Joe that does look very nasty!

I DID enjoy, Roger! I'm a long-time fan of that 1930s sound - syncopation and all.
The 1940s is rather harsh by comparison.

Joe, that's an alligator bite, not a daddy longlegs.
That's what you get for dating Polk Salad Annie!
Cheers, Mike.
