Skype charges

Post by hobby »

Hi

I have just updated my Skype program. I hardly ever have to use Skype but when I last did so I am sure that the service was absolutely free.

Alas, this no longer appears to be the case!

Can forum members who have used Skype recently please tell me if the "free - no charges" system has ceased?

Best wishes, hobby

Thank you for your replies.

We have just been given a new TV to replace our previous set which went u/s while still under guarantee. Our old TV had Skype as part of the package but in the intervening years the same manufacturer has deleted the built in Skype facility. We much regret that and have been trying to find a way to connect to Skype via the web browser which is built in to the new TV. We haven't had the new set very long and so far we have not managed to obtain a successful Skype connection, just have to keep trying while we get used to using the new TV menu.

Before any forum member suggests using a tablet neither of us has a tablet or a really smart phone and we have no intention of going down that road. Being of senior years we do not feel the need to buy the latest gadgets - later we might be forced to do because our present technology has been lefty behind but we'll hold on a little while later!

The people who know i.e. our grandchildren are far away in another land and timezone so cannot help.

We can of course use our computers but the TV in the living room was such a convenient way to contact our family abroad.

It is not necessarily progress just the passage of time.
