Weather or Not?

Post by JohnWillimas »

Has anyone else noticed how the winter storms have got worse since we started giving them names?

I reckon all that fame has gone to their heads. :dunno:

The drafty corner of Oxfordshire / Warwickshire / Northants in the UK.... (folk in the south west and the north have had it much worse than here, though)

This winter is turning out very much like that of 2013/14, when we also had a powerful storm about every ten days. A sizeable portion of Somerset was under water for weeks.

I've just taken this screenshot of Windmap - as you can see, on the right is the UK and the winds are pretty ferocious. But look over to the west coast of North America; there is yet another storm building !

High All,

You are right there John, i am about 25 miles from Bude Cornwall and the wind and rain has been awful, i don't know how Peter has faired ,obviously the same, i have just heard an aircraft overhead and looking on FR24 two Dash 8Q400's passing one another Manchester to Newquay and visa versa, i don't think i would like to be flying in them! wind gusts are still strong here.

Interesting, I knew about hurricane/cyclone naming, but didn't know about Atlantic storms.
There seem to be cross-references to tropical events in the storm sites, so for all I know, they all come under the one banner; no time to look deeper into it at present.
Maybe I shouldn't tell you this, John....
They've already picked the names into the future: :worried:

Slightly off topic, but I can't help feeling that we'd feel better about our weather if we had weather forecasts like the Greeks. Forget the language, what I love is the exuberance. The song goes.. "lovely day... every day"...

So very different from our own Bill Giles... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVmf6RWTFfA
