As if that wasn't enough, today is Australia Day and every single category of award including overall "Australian of the Year" was won by Aussies! Who would have thought?

Not content with cricketing wins against the Windies, then India, Australian Women's basketballers beat England, and an Aussie took out the Tour Downunder. gasp....Another won the motorcycling section of the Dakkar Rally.

<pat pat pat>.... no, - I'm not trying to burp you, I'm congratulating you.
Re: What a year for the Aussies!
Well. all I can say is I hope you had a happy 'Australia Day'! Do you lot do anything special to celebrate beside winning all those sporting events? Throw another shrimp on the barbie and drink a beer or twp or three or more? Sing waltzing Matilda all night or until you become sober? Inquiring minds want to know!

Re: What a year for the Aussies!
Joe, thank you kind sir!
Nigel, TBH, I spent all my recent non eating & sleeping time loading rubbish into a skip.
Next door hired one, which turned out to be 3 times bigger than they needed, so they offered me to fill it up with anything.
SWMBO suggested that I get rid of all the stuff I'd collected that would come in handy one day.
It all started Friday afternoon.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and today! Hopefully it will be taken away tomorrow morning.
Paul!
"Ashes smashes" that's ancient history, way back before THIS year!

Re: What a year for the Aussies!
Mike, that is one heck of a way to celebrate but understandable because SWMBO always has the final say, I am guessing. Be a rebel, start planning now to celebrate St. George's Day!

I have to say that is mightily impressive, for a basketball team to win 3 cricket series against top international competition - women or otherwise.Airspeed wrote:Not content with cricketing wins against the Windies, then India, Australian Women's basketballers beat England
And all within four weeks, going by your definition of 'this year'

I deserved that, Kevin!
For those, like me, who don't really follow sport, it wasn't the women's basketballers who beat the cricketers,...... but they would have, given the chance!

Apparently the crowd bullied the umpires to reconsider a caught and bowled after cannoned.Airspeed wrote: What's going on
I have no idea what any of that means.
