Legendary record producer Sir George Martin has died at the age of 90. hhttp://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35761464
He was often referred to as "The Fifth Beatle" and was a huge influence on the group and many other artists. Before meeting The Beatles, he produced classical music albums and comedy albums for EMI. He had never produced a rock and roll group before, but was struck immediately by the charm and charisma of the lads. He signed the Beatles after Decca had turned them down and the rest is history.
Flashback to January 1, 1964. I was here in the Colonies, a typical teen listening to the 1963 Top Forty countdown on the radio. At the end of the show, the disk jockey announced that he had a new record that would be number 1 in the coming year. He played " Want to Hold Your Hand" - he was right and the British Invasion of America had begun.
Rest in peace Sir George and my thought are with your family and friends.
