I bet the engine rooms are excellent, though. From a technical aspect, the best ships I ever served on were French-built.

Hmm.. while I sit in awe at the engineering marvels these ships are, they do little for me aesthetically.

Quite right too, though the way British shipbuilding is declining, I reckon Trident's replacement boats will be built by Hyundai.

Now this is what I call aesthetically pleasing. My first ship, and built in Britain too - J.L. Thompson's yard at Sunderland in 1959. She was the only ship I ever served on that had a crows nest, though I can't remember going up into it. I did two trips on her and we went all over the world, including a transit of the Panama canal. She was a very happy ship.

Ah yes.. classic lines and none of your Globtik 5mile long hulls That said.. GLobtik's earlier tankers (Sun springs to mind) is a lovely looking ship

I remember seeing one in the Solent when I was a nipper. It didn't quite eclipse the IoW but you see where I'm coming from Can't remember now if it was Tokyo or London. Too much in the subsequent years

Good grief, there's a name from my past ! Shell Tankers UK Ltd operated the original Methane Princess, and her sister Methane Progress, on contract to British Gas, running from Arzew in Algeria up to Canvey Island in the Thames estuary. The Princess was the first LNG tanker ever built, at Vickers in Barrow-on-Furness. Here they both are - I believe this is at Falmouth where they were laid up prior to scrapping.

I see the funnel colours are the same as the new Princess.I never sailed on either of them, though I did four LNG trips, all from Brunei to various ports in Japan.

I'm beginning to think the cruise ship thing was just an excuse to talk about these other ships.

In any case I don't think any of them have enough life rafts.
