Hi Colin,

"......Is it worth trying (and of course backing up the original)? If so, where do I find the scenery cfg?....."
In your FSX folder, the first section is more folders, the last being Weather.
Below that, files are listed.
Scroll down and you'll come across Scenery.cfg

The plot thickens....

Here's my current scenery cfg:

[General]
Title=FS9 World Scenery
Description=FS9 Scenery Data
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE

That's all it says!!

My old one looks like this (just the first few entries):

[General]
Title=FS9 World Scenery
Description=FS9 Scenery Data
Clean_on_Exit=TRUE

[Area.001]
Title=Default Terrain
Texture_ID=1
Local=Scenery\World
Layer=1
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

[Area.002]
Title=Default Scenery
Local=Scenery\BASE
Layer=2
Active=TRUE
Required=TRUE

[Area.003]
Title=0000 Base
Local=Scenery\0000
Layer=3
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.004]
Title=0001 Base
Local=Scenery\0001
Layer=4
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.005]
Title=0002 Base
Local=Scenery\0002
Layer=5
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

[Area.006]
Title=0003 Base
Local=Scenery\0003
Layer=6
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

Neither look anything like Dave's...!
Thanks

Your FSX scenery.cfg should be located in:

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\"

if it was installed for all users, or "user name" instead of "All Users" if installed only for a particular user.

The FSX-SE scenery.cfg should be in:

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX-SE\"

if you have both FSX and FSX-SE installed on the same machine.

If you have only FSX-SE installed, it will be in the first folder mentioned above.

EDIT. The above applies only on XP.

Well I have found a more likely looking Scenery file, but i had to search to get it, it's in C/ Program data/Microsoft /FSX. However I can only find it by searching.... I can't get to it directly.... is this a hidden folders thing?

I'm using Windows 10...
Thanks

Sorry, the ones I quoted were for XP :$

The one in C:/Program data/Microsoft /FSX/ is correct for W7.

If you can find it only by searching, you need to set "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in Tools -> Folder options -> View.

I have no idea where FSX-SE is on W7.

Thx found it now....I have 3 CFG files... "old Scenery"....." Playsims VFR Gen X update install back up"... and "scenery"

A snapshot of "scenery" shows:

Area.145]
Title=UK2000 VFR Airfields Volume1
local=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\UK2000 scenery\UK2000 VFR Airfields Volume1
Active=TRUE
Layer=145

Required=FALSE

[Area.146]
Title=New York City X DEMO
Local=C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\Addon Scenery\New York City X DEMO
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=143
[Area.147]
Title=S3Vectors
Local=..\..\..\..\Playsims\VFRGenX\Volume1\Area3\Vectors
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=147
[Area.148]
Title=S34.8m Mesh
Local=..\..\..\..\Playsims\VFRGenX\Volume1\Area3\4.8m Mesh
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE
Layer=148
[Area.149]

Title=S32.4m Photo
Local=..\..\..\..\Playsims\VFRGenX\Volume1\Area3\2.4m Photo

is it just a case of adding the missing C:\Program Files (x86)\ to complete the path?
Thanks

Great work, Colin!
I'd better think twice before offering "help".
I was wrong on a couple of counts, and it seems even my Scenery.cfg is in the wrong place. :$
