Looking for a new photo host

Post by Kevin Farnell »

For many years, I've used my Virgin Media webspace to host and hotlink photos.
I recently received a letter from Virgin Media, saying that this service will end on 28 April 2016. If this wasn't enough, they said that they'd teamed up with GoDaddy, to provide future webspace and had done me a wonderful deal of a free year, thereby saving me over £60/year.
Hang on!, it has cost me nothing over my subscription for many, many years - how on earth am I saving?
Needless to say, I won't be subscribing to the GoDaddy service.

So, I'm looking for a new host. My thoughts are with something like Flickr, Photobucket or possible even Airliners.net. What is important, is that it is free and that I can hotlink photos to forum such as the excellent Classic British Flight Sim.
Any advice, gentlemen would be much appreciated.

Regards.

Kevin

The very few photos/screenshots that I have go through Photobucket. Not sure of limitations though.

Hi Kevin - after Photobucket decided to fix what wasn't broken, I started using Imgur and have been very happy with it. Yes, you can hotlink all your pictures to forums like this one; all my screenshots and photos are on Imgur.

I use PostImage:

Totally free.

If you are with Virgin you could use Virgin Media Cloud:

So how do we get the image to show up in the message as opposed to just a web address?

In Imgur, click on the desired picture in your collection, and this will come up. Copy and paste the BBCode that the arrow points to:

P.S. You have to be signed in to your Imgur account to do this. :)

Thanks for your replies, chaps. I'll have a look at the options.

Alex - that looks a really nice set up you've got for your flightsim.

Thanks for the advice

That is my old setup, we've moved on a bit since then with a fancy keyboard and more convenient placement of Saitek stuff.
