Aerosoft's Twotter and Catalina - new P3Dv3 versions

Post by Paul K »

Just a quick heads up for those who use these aircraft in that sim.

I get the impression that with the PBY,it's more than just a new installer- there has been some tweaking going on. So, well worth getting the new version. :)

I think 'a few tweaks' probably means a few things have been sorted for P3D rather than anything new. A nice idea but $59.95 for P3D is a bit of a sting in the tail

Very likely so, though I can't think of anything that was obviously wrong when I had it installed via EMT in P3Dv3.2. Still, I always like to have the latest big thing. ;)

Nice to have the Twin Otter back in as well, after a long absence. :)

Downloaded the update for the Twin Otter yesterday and after adding my repaints they did not appear until I found that they needed to go into the 300 wheel instead of the Tundra as I did before  After a brief flight one noticeable change was the sound of the engines, but it may have been due to having new headphones, though sure it appears to have more power.

I've not noticed a change in sound or power meself, Nigel, but it's been a while since last installed, so you may well be right. It's a cracking model isn't it - almost one of those essentials for the collection. Aerosoft has produced some terrific aircraft over the years, and I'm looking forward to their Airbus A330. :)

Hi Paul, I should have flown the old version before installing the updated one then I would have noticed what changes are present. But as usual I dive in headfirst then wonder what difference there is between the new compared to the old! *-) Only thing I found that really caught me out was the Twin Otter Fuel Planner....went for a full load of baggage and passengers with enough fuel for a short hop from East Midlands to Liverpool set the trim slightly aft of neutral (as had done on previous flights) and opened up slowly at first and took off with about 80% power. As soon as I rotated the nose went straight up and had the stick forward whilst re-trimming nose down :-O Found that to maintain level flight I had to have the trim set 3/4 of the way nose down. In future I will load the aircraft myself. 8)

Had a look at the Airbus A330 and it looks really good though I doubt that I will ever buy it as I am not keen on modern avionics and have never tried to learn how to load a FMC with a flight plan, much prefer to use VOR and ADF and will stick to the good old fashioned way of flying along with the good old fashioned instruments.

Nigel, I know what you mean. I try to use radio navigation aids rather than sat-nav where possible; for example in a Cessna on a cross-country trip. However, if you do ever fancy dabbling in the world of FMCs, I can recommend Aerosoft's Airbus A318/319 and A320/A321 packages. The models, as you would expect, are superb, and it's very interesting to explore the procedures that modern airline crews use. Once you get into it, you find it's every bit as enjoyable as the 'old ways'.

Around this time of year, Aerosoft often bundles the 318/319 with the 320/321, so you might like to watch out for that. It's how I bought them a couple of years ago. :)

Thanks for the HU on Aerosoft but might have to hang back on that for a while as I can see myself being drawn ever closer to the Just Flight 1-11 and also the HS748, do not think for one moment there will be any Xmas offers on those two this year but just holding back to see if anything else comes on offer that takes my fancy before taking the final plunge.

Please not that Lincolnshire folk are not that far behind Yorkshire folk when it comes to utilising credit cards....................mine is still unsigned/unused! :wasntme:
