The £6.47 you paid for Diana makes it a more affordable addiction when compared with a $59.99 monster from Milviz 8)

And more affordable than the new PMDG 747 released yesterday, which comes in at $135 for the P3D version. Yep, just like Tesco, World of Warships is saving me money every day.

I've not spent enough time of WoWs lately because of my travel schedule (working on the road 5 days a week and not having a gaming laptop is starting to get to me...), but as a BB guy, let me tell you a secret - CA's work great if you can get into medium range of the BBs (under 8km) and start slogging away with your higher rate of fire and use incendiary instead of AP if you're in anything below the Pensacola class (whatever rank that ends up being for the other countries is probably about right too). Basically, anything below a 10" main gun won't have enough energy to penetrate BB armor at anything more than point-blank range. I can't remember how many times I've watched helplessly as a CA got in underneath me and set me afire multiple times and just basically burned me to death.

Thanks for the tip Chris. The trick, of course, is to actually get to 8,000m or less without ending up in small bits; just have to hope that the look-outs are asleep or, as is often the case on my ships, looking the wrong way (also known as watching the ball).

With the cruiser's speed and maneuverability, it's not that hard actually. Especially on the maps with a lot of landmass to work around. Don't be afraid to get in close to an island and use them to your advantage. Typically, cruiser's can loft their rounds higher than BB's so you have a better chance of hitting them and them being unable to hit you.

The other thing is, don't be the only guy. CA's work well in pairs where the BB has to pick one or the other. If one is taking a lot of damage, retreat and force the BB to shift to the other guy. 2 half dead CAs will still beat a full dead BB every day. :)

I know Chris - I was being a touch tongue in cheek :) . I did (once) lay an almost perfect trap for a BB - four torpedoe hits from less than 1,000m. I enjoy mostly fighting other, closely matched, cruisers. Some epic battles to be had.

Did the 4 torps actually sink him? I've gotten lucky a few times and it took 6+ torps to sink me (although it was like 4 + 2 + others and not all at once).

He wasn't particularly well at the time Chris and had made the mistake of getting in amongst the islands. He didn't stand a chance really but it was still a relief to get away unscathed. Some of my favourite fights are with well managed Destroyers - a bugger to find and harder to hit when you do find them.

On the flip side, some of my favorite BB sorties are when a DD thinks he's got me or a teammate figured out and I land a full salvo on him and end his day. Sadly, that tends to only happen once every 100+ sorties.

I've tried a BB, the South Carolina, but didn't enjoy it as much as cruisers. The reload and turret traverse times are a bit too long for my patience, and I'm not so good at leading distant targets. So, I'm sticking with cruisers for now, and have graduated to the Cleveland class in the USN tech tree. Still not quite sure how best to use her, but blimey, I've never seen so many turrets on a ship of that size.

The Emden is fun; very manoeuvrable with an incredibly fast reload time of four seconds. Only 4" guns though, and they don't do a fat lot of damage. I wonder if their AP shells over-penetrate destroyers ? If not, it might be worth experimenting further with AP.

Mikasa is a torpedo magnet. She is heavily armoured and has a lot of secondary armament to use against destroyers, but has the turning rate of a supertanker, and so you have difficulty turning into approaching torps. Her main battery guns aren't very accurate, but if you do get lucky, they can cause considerable damage to other tier 2 ships.

I see from the developers diary that the Royal Navy tech tree is going to be fleshed out this year, so it'll be interesting to discover what's in the battleship and destroyer branches. For the BBs, my money is on a Lion-class or Vanguard in the top tier. At tier 2 or 3, I'm hoping for the Lord Nelson class.
