Heartbroken

Post by cstorey »

I am devastated to see that one of the early and fine contributors to this board has received what in my view is a totally unjust sentence for his serious mistake in command of an aeroplane ( which he admitted ) . The sentence was more appropriate to a deliberate act or wanton recklessness, neither of which arose here .Most of you will know who I am speaking about. I do hope that he can find the determination to go to the Courts Martial Appeal Court and in any event I wish him well

I wasn't aware of this particular incident, but only one name sprang to mind and I googled it and I now know who you are referring to. Obviously not intentional, but does sound like quite a serious incident.

Very sad, at least he was cleared of perjury.

I have to agree with you and wonder how many of the Court Martial participants have had a totally error free career.

On the day that the Shoreham crash findings came out, which came to the unstartling finding that pilot error that could only be described as wanton recklessness was to blame, the verdict seems harsh to me.

As I have a photo of the Shoreham pilot coming straight at me in the Provost at Southport, not only do I find it absurb to propose that the pilot had confused the Hunter with a Provost, but it does not give me any greater confidence that Shoreham would have turned out any better.

Indeed, the sentence overall seems excessive, especially the suspended prison sentence. There seems to be something going on behind the scenes in this incident, but obviously we are not privy to whatever that might be.

I wish the gentlemen well.

I've had a D noticed banged on this subject for weeks now and come in from work to find it's 'gone off' in my absence. 8)

We actually heard from him a couple of days ago and he was, to all intents, in good spirits. Heaven knows how he must feel now :(

While I'm sure he will appreciate the kind words and support, I feel uneasy about the subject being left open.. at least until he see's fit to comment himself. Under the circumstances.. I will lock the thread rather than delete it.. for now.

Thank you.
