F1
This Sunday sees the start of a brand new season in Formula 1, I have kept up with the practices but I don't think for one minute that the teams showed the true potential of their cars. Well they won't will they, that will come on Saturday and Sunday.
For the first time in many years I am looking forward to the first race as cars will be much quicker around the corners due to the wider tyres, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes I think will be at the front but hoping that the slower teams find the pace to compete.
Really pleased that Bernie Ecclestone is no longer the man in charge although he did a good job some years ago F1 was becoming stale and boring due to his ideas. Now with Ross Brawn as Managing Director Motorsports I believe that he will re-write Formula One and bring it to a new level of competitiveness well, here's hoping.
Regards
Nigel.

Quite looking forward to the new season as I have not seen any F1 since Schumi's last season. But the cable company gave me a free upgrade for 1 year and not I can see the sports channel at last. Totally out of touch with the current scene but the lack of Ecclestone has to be a +ve.

Yes, I'm looking forward to the new season as well and hoping Lewis can get the title again...I think there might be a bit more competition from other makes this year...I'm especially looking forward to the British Grand Prix as my Son-in-law it taking me to see it! It will be the first Grand Prix that I have seen from the circuit for many years...The last one I actually went to was at Aintree in about 1957 and Stirling Moss won it in a Vanwall...It was the first time a British driver had won a Grand Prix in a British car for 35 years!

Re: F1
Snap Peter! 1957 Aintree was the only GP that I have attended. I was stationed just up the road at RAF Kirkham on my Airframe Mech's course at the time. I made friends with a lad who lived in Liverpool, and we spent the weekend at his home. Through the Forces Reunited site we were reunited 5 years ago, and are still in regular contact. He lives in South Australia.
Moss only won because he took over Tony Brookes car, and they were declared joint winners. Just imagine the scene if Hamilton was called in to let Rosberg take over his car.
Den.

Yes Den...I had forgotten about Tony Brooks...I was on my own for that visit and stayed a night in a very posh hotel in Aintree...All the other Grand Prix visits that I made to a circuit were at the Nurburgring when it had a 14 mile lap. I remember Fangio making the first ever lap in under 10 minutes. I remember that all my visits to the Nurburgring were either in the Boss's Volkswagen with him driving or later in my own mark one Volkswagen. In all cases there were other 266 Squadron pilots with us...Great days!

Re: F1
Very curiously, I too was at Aintree for my first GP , but I was only 12 and was taken my my Uncle ( my only other GP was also at Aintree in I think 1964 when Graham Hill was carrying all before him in the "smokestack" BRM . Wasn't the Vanwall a thing of beauty - rivalled in looks only by the Maserati 250F? Those were the days , albeit at a horrible cost in lives

Re: F1
Now that should be a very interesting race, would have been a bit more interesting had Daniel Ricciardo not crashed out, rather a strange accident as he did not appear to me to have done anything wrong.
Nonetheless, the start will bring quite a bit of excitement no doubt as the first corner nearly always produces some sort of mishap and only hope that does not include Hamilton!
As I don't have pay as you go TV I will keep well away from any news stories and also the teletext so I can watch it on Channel 4 who are screening the highlights during the afternoon.
Regards
Nigel.
