I found a £2 coin on the floor of my Renault Laguna a few weeks ago - anyone want to buy the car in case there are more ?

Since you promised me that Laguna 2 years ago, I'll send you my address and you can just send it on over... The 2£ coin that is. :agree: .

Stolen property? Captured property I would think. It really depends on who the gold was captured from, originally. If the Iraqis captured it from the Kuwaitis before it was captured by the allies then yes it probably needs to be returned. If it was legitimate property of the Iraqi government, then fortunes of war. And if nobody stands up to claim it, better for the tank owner.

Really as soon as the found it they should have just melted them down and whatever you do, DON'T TELL THE PRESS!

 I imagine the only thing they'll get, when it's all said and done, is a warm handshake from Ali Baba.

The Common Law principles apply. Nemo dat quod non habet..... There is, of course, no such thing as " fortunes of war" and the gold bars will need to be restored to their original owner . It is fair to assume that, this tank have been used by an aggressor in the Kuwait invasion, these will be within Kuwait . Strictly speaking, an interpleader summons will need to be issued, but one may take it that, as a matter of foreign policy , these bars will be returned to the Government of Kuwait

*-) True, but we cannot ignore that landmark case of 'Finders & Keepers -vs- Losers & Weepers'. :hide: ;)

If there is no such thing as fortunes of war then we need to return the tank to the Iraqis also, there really is no difference. Of course if your talking common law principles then adverse possession is pretty close to kicking in
