WIP for the proposed Gull series shown here in (I hope) the paint scheme it wore for the 1932 Kings Cup. I hope to create all the modifications to the Prototype G-ABUR, & then create the later D1 series where there is the one on display in Brussels & the aircraft that exist in Oz. This should hopefully give Peter Watkins some scope for repaints.
This model still needs finalising internally, but the next mods were with the reshaped fin & rudder & I believe it had also the glazed roof, not to mention the different engines....
Now here is a coincidence, whilst researching this aircraft I found that it had crashed in Scotland, was brought back to Brooklands where the wings were rebuilt using the Hendy 302 as a pattern, this being quoted by my Uncle, Ron Paine, who claimed to have participated in the rebuild. He would have been 18 years old at the time & I think he was an apprentice at Vickers Armstrongs - so the question is did Vickers rebuild the aircraft or one of the other companies resident at Brooklands. My father (aged 21 in February 1932) could also have helped as he was employed at Brooklands, but not sure with whom at the time - he could have been with Dudley Watts. If only one had known this when they were alive.......
