The Flying Scotsman.

Post by 511Flyer »

It's been well publicised that The Flying Scotsman will be in Surrey this month, but where and when has been a mystery. Why? Because Network Rail have advised the organisers not to publish their timetables because they fear overcrowding of stations and trespass. Why allow the network to be used so that the engine can be seen by the public, and then not tell the public where and when they can see it?

Strangely enough, the timetables are being published the day after the event, so that you can see where it had been and when you had missed it!

I managed to track it down, and watched it pass through West Byfleet station last evening at 20.40, she was two minutes late. It was her last outing in Surrey for some time, and I consider myself lucky to have been able to make a movie of the occasion.

Overcrowded station? If 12 is a crowd, yes! Total number of trespassers, 0! So I guess Network Rail's ploy worked.

Den, I suspect that it's all about 'elf an safety' and fear of litigation in case of an accident. If the battle of Aginciourt was being fought taday the English archers would have to put rubber suckers on the tips of their arrows in order to prevent injury! Bloody lawyers! Glad you managed to see her though. :) EricT
