Re: Sea Vixen gear up landing
I've seen worse fixed.
Biggest issue is the kinetic heating of the metals will have caused changes to the hardness properties in some areas. Best course of action for this is to replace rather than repair damaged sections. The removable items are straightforward tin bashing work, and electric string work where needed. We will have to wait and see if the financial backup is secure enough to support what will be a medium term project to restore it to flying status.

That's my hope too. There are folk well able to do the metal bashing and the electriceral bits. I'd have thought it more time consuming than expensive unless they farm the work out. Can't see that happening. Fingers crossed they find nothing more sinister lurking

Re: Sea Vixen gear up landing
Someone mentioned on PPRuNe that a gearbox between the two Avons has been damaged. If true then that could be a setback.....
Due to shortages and cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.

Re: Sea Vixen gear up landing
Or possibly the culprit, IIRC its the accessory gearbox (Rotol as in Dowty-Rotol if youve seen pprune) where things like hydraulic pumps and generators are installed.

I do hope someone has a spare auxiliary gearbox for them...

Very interesting video, but was the Sea Vixen ever part of Britain's nuclear deterrent?TobyV wrote: ↑13 Jun 2017, 19:39Video on BBC Points West (via FB - hopefully no account needed to view though):
